Azerbaijan’s Shahin Aslanov delivered the most outstanding performance in the seventh session of the European U19 Boxing Championships Loznica, Serbia.
Altogether 354 boxers from 36 nations are participating for the 20 titles and the 80 available medals in the European U19 Boxing Championships.
Boxers who were born in 2008 and in 2009 are eligible to participate in the European U19 Boxing Championships in Loznica.
Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine are the participating nations in Loznica.
The bout of the day
Azerbaijan’s former European Junior silver medallist Shahin Aslanov received several punches from Russia’s Mukhammad Ali Seferbekov in the first round but he was able to switch into a different strategy in the break. The taller Azeri boxer used his longer reach and technical skills much better from the second round and he eliminated the Russian with brilliant performance at the 65kg.
The surprise of the day
Ireland’s Jason Maher is a powerful talent but his second opponent in Loznica was Hungary’s European U17 Champion Istvan Czifra in the Round of 16. The Irish started the first round slightly better than the Hungarian but he turned up the heat in the second and he caught Czifra with multiple shots. Maher had the advantage after two rounds and he controlled also the final round to beat the European Champion using his excellent speed.
The Round-Up
England’s Rueben Huczmann knocked out his first rival but he could expect a harder contest against Ireland’s Antrim-based Lee Largey Snoddon in the Round of 16. The English boy opened the session as two days ago and with same stormy attacks and the referee counted the Irish opponent. Huczmann enjoyed his second contest in Loznica and he is now a quarterfinalist at the men’s 55kg weight category.
Romania’s European U17 silver medallist Denis Aurel Alexandrescu and his coaching staff analysed Germany’s Michael Deisling well and he gained the control of the bout immediately. The 17-year-old Romanian was able to reduce the fighting range with effective combinations and he had a solid advantage on the scorecards after two rounds. The German moved forward more in the third round but Alexandrescu was also better in the counter-attacking style to beat Deisling today.
Russia’s Islam Magomedov eliminated Bulgaria’s European Champion Yanko Iliev in the previous round and he had another top rival as second, Georgia’s Emil Ismailovi, the bronze medallist from the World Boxing U19 Future Cup. The Russian moved forward against the taller Georgian but he received several jabs during his attacks from the 17-year-old Ismailovi. Magomedov stepped into the gas in time to win their tight meeting but the Georgian proved that he has strong future potential.
Spain’s Manuel Bueno bowed out Hungary’s World Junior bronze medallist Dominik Gombai in the Round of 32 but he did not find the best fighting range against Armenia’s Vahram Dovlatbekyan in the next stage of boxing. The 17-year-old Spaniard defeated his Armenian opponent in the semi-finals of the Kakauridze U19 Tournament this May but this time Dovlatbekyan made an unexpected revenge despite Bueno’s strong efforts in the third.
Serbia’s Filip Stanojevic won his first preliminary bout in Loznica but he had a more difficult rival as second, the European U19 silver medallist Tommaso Orlando of Italy. The referee counted the Serbian after a heavy right-handed hook in the first round therefore Orlando had all of the advantages on the scorecards. The 18-year-old Italian had the full control of this 55kg bout from the first seconds and his world-class footwork was a decision-making difference between them.
Georgia’s defending European U19 Champion Luka Chkhikvadze started relatively slowly against Sweden’s Wilmer Ekblom-Olsson but proved his very best from the second to beat his Nordic opponent at the 65kg. Ukraine’s Nazar Kliuchko delivered the next strong performance in this weight class, he dominated his Round of 16 contest against Germany’s Oliver Herz.
Bulgaria’s Vladimir Davidov had a quick success in the first day of boxing and he used the same excellent footwork to find the best angles against Greece’s Achilleas Tsepidis in his second preliminary bout at the 65kg. The Bulgarian danced through the whole ring and he handled the tactical challenges well enough against the attacking Greek opponent to win their tough Round of 16 meeting by a disqualification. His teammate, Dzhan Fikret, the Lah Nimani Tournament winner, secured the next victory for them after beating Turkey’s Yigit Sevilmis at the 75kg.
Germany’s Justin Kiz had a strong impression in the first round against Romania’s Marian Adrian Chirita and he continued his performance until the last gong. Belgium’s Sam Radfar is not an experienced boxer yet in the international stage but he smashed Hungary’s European U17 bronze medallist Alex Domjan in their meeting at the 75kg, stopping his opponent after his strong pressure.
