Overlapping the Eindhoven Box Cup, the new Abashidze Memorial Tournament is another strong elite competition for the female and male boxers in Georgia these days.
Georgia hosted the Kakauridze U19 Tournament earlier this month but their management decided to arrange another international event in the city of Batumi, the Abashidze Memorial Tournament.
Batumi is one of the most developed cities in the region which is located off the coast of the Black Sea and Georgia’s new diamond in terms of tourism, investment and sport.
Georgia has strong elite national team with several European Elite and European U23 Championships’ medallists on the board and the event is also a selection between them for the top competitions of the year.
Armenia, Greece, Moldova, Poland and Turkey sent also a powerful squad to the Abashidze Memorial Tournament this year. Israel returned to the international boxing business and their best elite boxers are taking part in the city of Batumi.
Altogether 27 female and 71 male boxers are participating for the 17 available titles in the Abashidze Memorial Tournament in Batumi. Twelve contests are scheduled in the first competition day including three female bouts and some of them at the men’s 60kg are expected to be world-class.
