Following the European U19 Boxing Championships, the next important competition in Europe will be the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Poland. The women’s international event will be the highlight of next week with the participation of more than 320 female boxers.
Poland’s next top international event, the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament will start on August 24 and the finals are scheduled to be held on August 29.
Czech Republic, England, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Norway, Poland, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and United States of America have registered to the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament.
There are some separate female competitions in the world and the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament is one of the top quality events among them which has also strong traditions in the recent more than 20 years.
The international female competition will be held for the women’s elite, U19 youth and U17 junior boxers in Gliwice and due to the upcoming main goals, high number of countries decided to send their teams to Poland.
The Silesian Open Tournament will be a preparation event for the European Elite Boxing Championships, the European U17 Boxing Championships, the World U19 Boxing Championships and the Asian Games.
The Event Director Mr. Henryk Wilk is the engine of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament who launched the competition to develop female boxing in Poland.
The first edition of the Silesian Women's Open Boxing Tournament was held still back in 2006 with the participation of a few neighbouring countries but the brand became bigger and stronger each year.
Several strong, but young elite female boxers such as Serbia’s Olympian Sara Cirkovic, Ireland’s Niamh Fay, Slovakia’s Tamara Kubalova, Poland’s Amelia Kostrzewa and Norway’s Sofia Stigen Sorensen earned gold medals at the 20thedition of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice one year ago.
