The Polish elite boxers amazed in the fourth competition day at the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice today.

The international female competition is holding for the women’s elite, U19 youth and U17 junior boxers in Gliwice. The Silesian Open Tournament is a preparation event for the European Elite Boxing Championships, the European U17 Boxing Championships, the World U19 Boxing Championships and the Asian Games.

The bout of the day

Poland has amazing women’s boxing team and their best option at the 70kg is also a technician athlete, Barbara Marcinkowska. The three-time European U23 Championships bronze medallist Polish had a tough semi-final battle against Slovakia’s Olympian Jessica Triebelova but after the crucial fight her hand rose after the last bell. France’s Andrea Badin won the second semi-final of the women’s 70kg and she will be Marcinkowska’s final opponent on Saturday.

The surprise of the day

Ukraine’s Youth World silver medallist Tetiana Dovhal lost to Czech Republic’s Barbora Maxova in the quarter-final stage of the 60kg which was a small surprise on Day3. The 20-year-old Czech faced with England’s Ella-Mae Lonsdale, who claimed a gold at the 2025 edition of the European U19 Boxing Championships today as next. Maxova exceeded the previous expectations and she defeated also the super talented English teenager therefore she can test her skills in the final of the 60kg against Poland’s Olympian Aneta Rygielska.

The Round-Up

Poland’s Natalia Niewiadomska had a tough veteran opponent in the semi-finals of the elite 48kg today, Ukraine’s former World silver medallist Hanna Okhota. The Polish teenager has more than 80 contests despite her young age and she worked well in the first round to take the lead. Okhota returned to the contest with outstanding punches but Niewiadomska performed well in the last three minutes once again to win their semi-final and she will meet another 19-year-old boxer for the gold, Mathilda Fragnieres of France.

Poland’s next young sensation in the elite team, Natalia Kuczewska, the former Youth World silver medallist is also on the right way to take a gold medal in the Silesian Open Tournament. She controlled all of the three rounds against Ukraine’s Yaroslava Marynchuk and she won their semi-final at the 51kg unanimously. Kuczewska’s final opponent will be another Ukrainian, Alona Unkovska who had a success over France’s Mayssoun Bourega, the new debutant from last year.

England’s Olympian Charley Davison and Czech Republic’s Lenka Bernardova both missed many of the previous international events in this Olympic cycle but they are back on track to show their progress. The English did not find the best fighting range in this 54kg semi-final bout and the 25-year-old Bernardova managed her pathway to the final where she will now meet Finland’s Teresa Maekinen.

Poland’s Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta is the top name of the host nation’s squad and she returned to the events after a short break. The 23-year-old Polish had a very difficult semi-final against England’s newcomer Shassen Dutton who had the same technician and patient fighting style. Szeremeta felt the support of the crowd and she defeated the English pugilist in a close semi-final bout at the 57kg.

Poland’s Kinga Krowka had excellent junior and youth results between 2021 and 2024 but her robbing to the elite boxers last year was a sensational breakthrough for her. The 20-year-old talent controlled all of the three rounds against Germany’s Emma Winter and she also joined the finals as the next Polish elite boxer. Krowka will now meet for the title of the women’s 65kg weight class another promising boxer, England’s Ella Thompstone.

Elzbieta Wojcik returned to the boxing world after giving birth to her daughter last year and she made strong steps in the Silesian Open to be successful again in the international events. The 30-year-old Olympian eliminated Ukraine’s Maria Lovchynska in the semi-finals of the elite +80kg and she stopped her teammate, Katarzyna Gorzkowska to earn the first elite title of the Open.

Ireland’s Ava Harford was punctual and aggressive in her final bout to beat Poland’s Anna Worobiak in the smallest weight category of the U17 age group. Czech Republic’s Aneta Novakova had a great finish to beat Germany’s Laura Lipfert at the 48kg division, winning the bout by 2:1 split decision. Germany’s Amalia Muller made the next strong performance and she defeated Poland’s two-time European Schoolgirls Champion Amelia Urban in the best U17 final of the Open.
